HowInés works
Inés opened LUMORA in 2019 after eleven years moving between editorial floors in Madrid, Antwerp and London. She built the studio around a single frustration: that most rooms sell a look before they have asked a single question.
She still takes the longest consultations on the floor — twenty minutes before a comb touches anything — and cuts almost entirely with scissors. Her work is quiet, structural and very hard to point at, which is exactly the intention.
Inés leads the studio's training programme and reviews every apprentice's first hundred cuts personally.
A haircut is a decision about how you want to be read. My job is to make sure the answer is yours, not mine.

The twenty-minute question
We spend a third of the appointment talking, standing up, with dry hair. It looks like a luxury and it is actually the cheapest insurance in the building — here is what we are asking, and why.

Cut it dry
Cutting curls wet is faster, tidier and wrong. Our texture specialist explains why she works curl by curl on completely dry hair, and what that changes about the appointment you should be booking.

Growing it out is a haircut
Most people attempt length by simply not booking anything, then abandon it around month three. An editorial artist maps the actual route from short to long, and where the scissors still have to intervene.

Against the menu
Number two back and sides. Skin fade plus beard trim. The menu barbershop sells haircuts as SKUs, and the shape of the room follows. A note on why we build the appointment around the head instead.
